The Shallow Raceway System (SRS)® . Description of the Production System.
The (SRS)® Production System, is based on a metal structure on which the flat tanks or rectangular trays will be mounted, arranged
in shelves or levels :
• Metal Structure. Trays Support
The support structure consists of a lattice of metallic profiles, supported directly on the concrete slab, formed by vertical feet and horizontal longitudinal beams. The whole structure will carry an antioxidant treatment and lacquered with epoxy paint, and cover the terminations in the case of hollow profiles.
The metal structure must keep the surface of the trays perfectly level, for the correct functioning of the system. Therefore, the installation is assembled insitu to prevent defects in the assembly due to the slopes of the ground and to guarantee its optimum horizontality.
• Tanks or Trays
On this structure will be mounted flat tanks or rectangular trays, 2 m. wide by 22,5 m. long and 50 cm. high, arranged in heights or tray levels and designed for the particular conditions of each species aquaculture. The trays are joined together by polyethylene and PVC pipes, through which the water conduction will be carried out, both at the entrance and at the exit of the trays. The discharge of the water to the outside will be made by this lattice of pipes, prior filtering where all the sediments that carry the water in suspension will be deposited.
The system in rectangular tanks, due to its design and operation, requires the circulation of a large amount of water (1.300 m3 hour). To reduce the cost of water consumption, its environmental costs, and maintain a water of constant quality, has opted for the specialized use of a complex system of recirculation or reuse of water and purification of the same. RAS System (Recirculation Aquaculture System).
The most important requirements are that the characteristics of inlet and outlet of water to and from the trays, ensure a rapid evacuation of the unconsumed food and the feces of the fish, thus achieving an optimal condition of cultivation for them. The trays are of polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass, suitable for food use.
